Write and Distribute a Press Release
Write a press release describing your fundraising event. Include information about what your goal is,
who is involved, where the event is taking place and other relevant facts.
Get the Word Out
Contact your local media outlets — newspaper, radio station, cable channel — and ask them to run your
story. Distribute your press release a few days before the event to help generate interest in your event
and give reporters a chance to absorb the information and plan how to cover the story (for example,
where it will appear in the paper, what additional information and interviews they’ll need, and what
visuals they’ll want).

Once you download the PDF document to your desktop and open it, you can use it as a guide to write your
own press release. You may even copy the text from the PDF document, paste it right into a word-processing
program of your choice (e.g., Microsoft Word) and replace the words in brackets with your own information.
